ESTABLIS workshop in Bratislava, Slovakia

establis fellows sun drawingThe third ESTABLIS Workshop took place between the 20th-22nd of March 2013 at the International Laser Center (ILC), Bratislava,

Slovakia. Mornings were dedicated to interesting lectures in the field of material science, concerning in particular different characterization techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Scanning Probe Microscopy, Time-of-Flight Secondary Ions Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). While the afternoons the fellows had the opportunity to receive complementary training about the various analytical techniques available at the ILC, directly from the researchers working with them. As usual, the event represented also the opportunity for all the ESTABLIS Committee to come together: Work Packages (WP), Public Outreach Committee (POC) and Fellow Committee (FC) allowed fellows to present the state-of-the-art of their work, exchange ideas, samples, propositions etc. The ESTABLIS Workshop social events have been the occasion for all the participants to have a taste of local history and architecture (visit of the old downtown and the castle, with a breathtaking view) and of local foods, wines and beers. The end of the workshop was marked by an extraordinary event, the fellows (pushed by Roger) decided to follow one of the local traditions, painting ESTABLIS along their names on the ground just in front of the entrance of the ILC building.
